Kei Igawa: Mariners Reportedly Interested

Update: Add the Mariners to the growing list of MLB teams reportedly interested in Igawa, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.
Recommendation: Mariners GM Bill Bavasi did not comment publicly on the M's potential interest. Igawa's Japanese club, the Hanshin Tigers, have yet to officially submit Igawa's name to the commissioner's offices in Tokyo and New York to start the posting process. Hanshin likely is waiting until the identity of the team that won the rights to Daisuke Matsuzaka becomes public knowledge later this week; that would free up all of the teams that lost out in the Matsuzaka bidding to consider bids on Igawa. Of those teams that likely were not part of the Matsuzaka sweepstakes, the Braves, Giants and Dodgers were already rumored to be interested in the hard-throwing Japanese lefty.

Re: Igawa?
I'm assuming that Sabean was also intrigued by the nice pickups of relievers by San Diego, ChiSox, and Dodgers, getting good relievers, especially closers, on the cheap from Japan (Saito and Otsuka), and you know Sabean loves cheap. :^)
Igawa has nice stats - http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/player.jsp?PlayerID=1048 - and looks like he could be an expensive post, so that would be nice if the Giants are bidding on him. He will be 28 for next season, so his prime years are coming up, and he would be a nice pickup for (the Giants mantra this off-season) "right contract." Not sure what that would be though...

Re: Igawa?
Um... does anyone know why there is a statistical column for "Ties"? Are there ties in Japanese baseball? Or do all of their pitchers, like Igawa, have zero ties?

Ties

Re: Ties
Wow, that's a very reasonable and sensible resolution to a long game, doesn't screw up either team for the next few days - that's probably why MLB hasn't ever instituted that (except for that memorable All-Star sham of a game; it is one thing to tie when it is within the rules, another to make up your own rules on the fly).
Thanks!

I'm disappointed the race is getting deeper.
