OT: The Warriors

It's that time of year again. W's have looked good, going 5-1 in the preseason and averaging 114 points per game. Do any believers remain amongst us? Can Nellie bring it back?

I want to be a believer.  Yes, I think I will believe until proven otherwise, at that point I will look forward to a bad draft pick.

Yes I do.

Re: OT: The Warriors
Yes, it's time for them to come back under Nellie!  I'm pretty excited, though I would just be happy with a winning record for his first season, but at his age, he won't want to mess around with crap for very long, it's do or die for the players under him.

Players for me to watch are Dunleavey at point forward and Biedrin getting more playing time.  Maybe Ellis and Wagner too.

Is that a distant relative of Felipe Alou?

Re: OT: The Warriors
If Baron Davis doesn't mess with team chemistry the Warriors could be a sleeper in the Western Division. They are deep, young and talented. Nellie will have them running and gunning.

Re: OT: The Warriors
That makes it sound like they're dangerously short on veteran savvy, though. Maybe they need some tips from Sabean?

Re: OT: The Warriors
Randy Winn could provide some veteran saavy and backup at G. Also, he probably has some pretty good dirt on Nash to taunt him with.

Re: OT: The Warriors
I'm biting. Its been years. I always liked Nellie. Especially back in the days before Radnich on KNBR and Nellie would do the morning show with Mike and Frank in the morning and totally bag on Tommy Tolbert. Tolbert was a gas to watch in those days with more strange hair cuts than Madonna.

Brings back memories of Bill (SPREE FOR THREE...AND THROWS UP A PRAYER....ANSWERED) King.

Kruk and Kuip had Baron Davis in the booth a year and half ago when he first got traded.  I liked the guy...but have to admit.  I know jack shit about hoops. Nothing. I hardly know the rules, but do remember when the Warriors moved out here with Wilt Chamberlain.

I remember the 75 championship team with Barry, Keith Wilkes, Phil Smith, Clifford Ray and Coach Attles and owner Franklin Mieuli.  Good times.

Its been ten years since I followed the Warriors. Its good to be back. :-D

Good time to check in on the Warriors and their new synthetic ball.

Nellie's worth watching, even in his dotage. He's in the Hall of Fame as a coach, even if the Warriors go 1-81 this year.

Ah, but E, do you remember the magical tones of Bill King saying "Barry, Meschery, Thurmond, Rogers, and Attles"?  Rick's rookie year - what an experience!

Re: OT: The Warriors
Thought they had all the pieces to be successful going into last season, and it was just another flop.  This season, they have all those pieces and more, plus a year under their belts, plus Big Nellie.....but I just can't get too juiced.  Been burned too many times, they have to prove something on the court before I believe.

No matter what though, they'll be fun to watch.

Believe what, that they will make the playoffs?  13 years have beaten that belief out of me.  I'm in "show me" mode.

Re: OT: The Warriors
The Warriors were fun to watch for a few months at the beginning of the season and then they just fell off a cliff. I hope that doesn't happen again, but I'm not counting on it not happening.

Re: OT: The Warriors
As a long-suffering Warrios fan, and former season ticket holder (moved away), let me state the obvious: The Warriors Are Due.

Why not this year? The Warriors are playing like they give a crap. Nellie has brought some juice to this squad. This is an above .500 team. I think they will make the play-offs and lose in the first round.

Perhaps more importantly, the style of play will be better than at any point in the past decade.

Humm Baby!

Re: OT: The Warriors
Nelson will make them more fun to watch, but they will need some help to make the playoffs. Like teams ahead getting worse, which could happen. The big worry seems to be defense, but that can be minimized with doubling, switching, and some zone. What I worry the most is can they keep teams off the offensive glass and not give teams 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances to score on one possession? If they can do that pretty well, they should do well. If they can't, no way can make the playoffs.
