John Manuel of BA talking about Villalona in a chat today on ESPN:
His name's Angel Villalona. I have the Giants' instructional league roster in front of me, and he's as young as a prospect can be, with a 1990 birthday (yikes!) and big-time raw tools. He signed for $2.1 million; international players (especially 16-year-old Dominicans) get that much money when teams see both present tools and lots of future projection. In layman's terms, he can hit a ton now, shows raw power for the future and enough athleticism, hand-eye coordination and arm strength to be a power-hitting third baseman down the line. He's probably the top hitting prospect in the Giants system right now, with all due respect to Nate Schierholtz, whom I like.
Sounds like a good review, too bad he's not ready now. It's nice to see that Manuel likes Schierholtz, too.
