The Rest of the Season
Ok, I'm sure no one wants to talk about it. But we're in a pennant race! As I figure it, if the Giants win all of their remaining series (2 out of 3 against the Nats, Rox and Snakes and 3 out of 4 against the Pads), and the Padres lose all of their remaining series (1 out of 3 against the Dodgers and Snakes, 1 out of 4 against the Rox and Giants), then the two teams will finish with identical 78-84 records. Sure it's embarrassing, but who cares! We now have the team we expected to have at the beginning of the year. Let's see if they could have been good.

so, just a few notes
- Padres have 7 more games at home and 7 more games away. The Giants, on the other hand, have 3 games at home and 7 games away.
- We have an off-day today to reload whereas the Padres have no more off-days down the stretch.
- Seems like we've lost Schmidt. But that may not be a show-stopper because we don't really want him pitching against the Padres anyway.

Schmidt and Peavy Trade-off
The Nats have pretty much played themselves out of a race this weekend, so they may be depressed enough to roll over. If the Pads have used up their mojo, we certainly haven't used ours. That could mean good things.
Overall though, I'd rather finish 5 games out than finish the way we did last season (the final Sunday game notwithstanding). Seven-run ninths to lose the division SUCK. (And yes, I am fully recovered enough to talk about 2004 -- 2002 is still a few seaons away).

Matchups for that 4 game set:
Game 2: Eaton vs. Tomko - Even
Game 3: Astacio/Park vs. Schmidt/Correia - Even
Game 4: Lowry vs. Lawrence - Advantage, Giants.
Like I said, three out of four.

I would be amazed if we caught up with the Pads
By the way, has anybody checked out the Pads website? Over twice as many people their have voted for Xavier Nady at first over Mark Sweeney. Mark Sweeney of the .400+ OBP. Please listen to them, Bruce Bochy!
