I can't watch that stuff

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy looking at women as much as the next guy. Skinemax, porn, summertime on the streets of San Francisco, anything.

But this beach volleyball shit is just such naked, vulgar pandering that I actually find it distasteful. It's not sport, or else it's sport that's been co-opted into some kind of peep show. You couldn't pay me to watch it. I guess I just like my sport in this box and my sex in this box, so to speak, and don't really care to have them mixed.

I haven't found many other people who agree with me, though.

i agree

keep my sports and sex separate. it is distracting. imagine trying to watch schmidt pitch a no-hitter and jenna jameson comes on the field in a bikini.

Double standard

I think that there's always an erotic component to all sports -- physical activity is, after all, sensuous and pleasing to the eye. The Greeks wrestled naked and oiled up, for instance, and the homosociality (some would say homoeroticism) of sports is still prevalent today (see: butt-slaps (well maybe not, what with steroid injection sites)). (I should note now that I've had a huge mancrush on, of all people, Bill Mueller since about 2000.)

It's sort of a damned if you do/don't binary here; you watch beach volleyball for the titillation, you're objectifying them; you don't watch it because of the titillation, you're still treating the players as objects whose sole purpose is to be titillating.

Personally, I like watching women's beach volleyball (or in fact any women's sport that features athleticism and coordination (which disqualifies the WNBA)) whenever it's on and when I'm not busy, both for the sex appeal and for the dominance of Kerri Walsh and Misty May. Athleticism is sexy, competence is sexy, domination is sexy... and I think I just shared too much.

It's the hottest way, man. I mean, just look at the guy. Smokin'. I, of course, adore the high socks. It should be a mandatory part of the uniform, IMO.

Not hot enough. I bet his wife is hot enough for most guys, though. Lance Niekro isn't half bad. Jesse Foppert. Jason Ellison looks adorable in the socks (although he isn't too good looking).

Trust me. The socks can fix anyone. :)
