Open Rainday Thread, 6/4

Hennessey and Cain, then pray for rain? Wait, they're both in the minors. Pray for rain, then.

"Rainday." Good one. Sun-splashed day in NY, alas. I'm afraid we actually are going to have to play today.

ummm....
is no channel airing the game despite the "national blackout" due to TV coverage?

I think...
Kenshin lives in Chicago, so no channel 2 for him. Are they showing a different game in your market, K?  You may be better off.  Grissom's back, y'know.

Fox
You probably get St. Louis/Houston at 3.

or the White Sox
Sometimes I forget there are AL games.

GAH
Seven game losing streak + Fox broadcasting team + Cruz ignores Glynn's sign and gets thrown out at the plate = shoot me now.

Gene Glynn
Did Sonny Jackson get a race transplant operation?

by Flynn Blake on Jun 4, 2005 10:43 AM PDT reply actions

Gene Glynn was right
Glynn clearly through up a stop sign, well in advance, but, when Cruz should've had his eyes locked on third and Glynn, he was peeking at Floyd's bobble.  Then he completely ignored Glynn and was out at home by a wide margin.

To me, it didn't look like Piazza put the tag on, but when you're beaten by four or five hours the umpires ignore technicalities like that.

OMGWTFBBQ1!!1oneone
I'm at work and I tuned in late.  Did Cruz really get thrown out at home?  Already?

I don't know what's worse...

Waking up hungover or waking up hungover to the Giants losing on national television.

Isn't this the second or third time someone has ran through a Gene Glynn sign this season?  Is he putting up the hold signs late or something?

Worse
...waking up hung over as the Giants lose and realizing you spent the night drinking with your boss, and there's just no way you didn't say one or a hundred things that were severely career-limiting.

Did I ask my boss if she was a bisexual? Oh, god...

by antinous on Jun 4, 2005 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions

Well?
What'd she say?  ;-)

by Skaldheim on Jun 4, 2005 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah
Vizquel did it a week or two ago.  Maybe he needs to get one of those big red STOP signs and an orange vest like a crossing guard.

Tackle The Dude
No, seriously, Gene Glynn needs to get these guys to respect his authoritah.  If that means tackling the next fool who ignores his signals, so be it.

Moises Alou
Brian Sabean's best signing of the offseason.  And the Giants' best hitter this season.

Alouuuuuuuu

I'm going to go pee on on my hands...

I Like Moises Alou
He hits home runs for the Giants.

Bullpens
This one will be decided not by our knowledge of the Force, but instead by our skills with the bullpens.

Crap.

Never Mind
I was overestimating Lowry.

by Skaldheim on Jun 4, 2005 11:59 AM PDT up reply actions

Winning Baseball
Reyes crushes a double and Cameron walks on four pitches, so Beltran, the team's #3 hitter bunts the runners over for the slumping and pathetic Piazza, and that's winning baseball?

I hate announcers and their all-consuming worship of the bunt.

by Scott @ McCovey Chronicles on Jun 4, 2005 11:54 AM PDT reply actions

Damn
Just because it works doesn't mean it's not still stupid.

by Scott @ McCovey Chronicles on Jun 4, 2005 11:56 AM PDT up reply actions

DId the announcers really say it was smart?
Giants radio team was bashing it, called Beltran stupid. Seems self-evident.

by lyricalkiller on Jun 4, 2005 11:59 AM PDT up reply actions

Krukow
Krukow just criticized Matheny for not going back to the hard fastball.

Wow.

by Skaldheim on Jun 4, 2005 11:55 AM PDT reply actions

Ugh
I need to go do something more fun than watch this game, like pay my rent, have a root canal, and attend a furry convention.

by Scott @ McCovey Chronicles on Jun 4, 2005 11:58 AM PDT reply actions

Furry
Dude.  That is wrong on so many levels.  Anything but that.  You're scaring me.

by Skaldheim on Jun 4, 2005 11:59 AM PDT up reply actions

More Krukow
"The Giants pitching staff has to be one of the worst in the league at holding runners on...they're just not doing the job."

Even Krukow's getting disgusted by this team.

by Skaldheim on Jun 4, 2005 12:04 PM PDT reply actions

Lowry has something wrong
I don't think he threw a single change for a strike today.  Big trouble for a guy who throws 87 on a good day.

Off I Go
I get to spend the next hour or so away from the radio, in the bowels of the server room.

Let's go, eight in a row!

Krukow/Miller really bashing the pitching today
Miller's been disgusted with this team for a while.

by vish on Jun 4, 2005 12:08 PM PDT reply actions

It's true
I've been watching the TV broadcast and turned on the radio after Lowry's meltdown, and you really could hear the disgust in Krukow's voice.  I don't think I've ever heard him like that.

Stat on Fox
"Giants have hit into 55 double plays, most in the majors."

Hmm, why am I not surprised?

Fun Giants Facts
The two Scotts -- Eyre and Munter -- are the only two Giants pitchers with ERAs under 4.00.

Has everyone else gone outside to enjoy the nice weather? Am I suffering here alone?

by Kitspool on Jun 4, 2005 1:00 PM PDT reply actions

SI.com has hinted that the Giants are looking at
the Orioles Jorge Julio.  Anyone hear anything about that?

by amoose on Jun 4, 2005 1:03 PM PDT reply actions

I suffer with you Kitspool
I live in OR so I only get to see the Giants on TV once or twice a month.  Wouldn't you know I get a painful display of competence in NY on the back end of a huge losing streak.  For some reason though I just can't pull myself away.  Sadomasochism, I guess.

by amoose on Jun 4, 2005 1:09 PM PDT reply actions

At least
Scott Eyre acquitted himself nicely.

Is it OK to cry?
What a terrible year. I had my hopes up that Jerome Williams and Noah Lowry would be the foundation of a great Giants team someday -- maybe even this year. Ugh.
