c'mon, Barry...

According to a little articlette on ESPN, Bonds intends to play for the US in the Baseball Classic. He was supposedly recruited to do so by Bobby Bonilla. That Bonilla is just a bad influence on our poor impressionable left fielder. I'd rather Bonds just lie on a beach somewhere until Spring Training.

Is there a DH in the Baseball Classic? If so, can Sabean work out some guarantee that whoever manages the US team won't Bonds in the field?

Scary but...
I think he'll just DH. I can see his knee exploding like a pinata trying to flag down a pop fly in a meaningless game.

Rotoworld says

"Barry Bonds has agreed to play for the U.S. team in the World Baseball Classic in March.

Bonds could be used primarily as a DH in the tournament. Giants GM Brian Sabean said Monday that Bonds has resumed workouts with physical therapist Clive Brewster in Los Angeles and that he has not been back to see Dr. Lewis Yocum, an indication he has not encountered problems with his knee"

Re: c'mon, Barry...
From what I heard,
he was pressured to do so by MLB. I think its frigging pointless, but baseball wants him to.

Re: c'mon, Barry...
I kind of wasn't paying attention when MLB was speculating about the participation of its players in the tournament. I assume MLB wants Bonds to play because it makes the US appear like a credible participant. I assume the individual teams don't want any of their players (American or not) playing because of the risk of injury or just being worn down.

Well...
...if Barry is so fragile that he can't DH in some non-league games, then he should just retire right now.

I am all for Barry playing.  We'll get a good idea early on how sound his knee is.  Beats him playing in the field during spring training, if you ask me.

I am all for the WBC.  Competitive baseball in March?  Yes please!
