AFL lines, 10/17/05

Mesa lost to Phoenix 10-2 (7 innings due to rain)

Giants lines:
8. C Justin Knoedler: 0 for 3
LHP Brian Burres: 1.0+ IP, 8 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 0 HR--(1 HB)
RHP Brian Wilson: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, 0 HR

Other Mesa lines:
4. 1B Ryan Garko: 1 for 2, BB
RHP David Aardsma: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 0 HR

Notable Phoenix lines:
1. DH Josh Burrus: 3 for 5, 3B, 2B
3. SS Stephen Drew: 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB
6. 1B Daric Barton: 1 for 2, 3B, 2 BB

A non-descript game for Knoedler as Garko was the only Mesa hitter to reach safely twice.  Burres was great in his last start and dreadful this time.  He allowed 3 ER in the 1st and then did not retire a batter any of the 6 batters he faced in the 2nd inning.

I guess we can say that Aardsma's line is not as good as it looks since he allowed all three inherited runners to score.  He and Wilson both have ERAs of 12.46 now.  Ouch.  Wilson does need to improve his control.

Burrus is a Braves prospect.  Drew and Barton are among the top 15 or 20 hitting prospects in baseball.  Another top hitting prospect, the Dodgers' Andy LaRoche, raised his AVG to .306 today, which is the second lowest average in the Phoenix lineup.
